Cooling Point Aircon Services

Success Story

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Mr Jonathan Lee, 30, a former police sergeant, with his drive and the burning desire to succeed – combined with integrity, honesty and reliability - took his first, most important single step when he serviced a friend's aircon in his HDB flat in 2005. It proved to be a turning point in the entrepreneurial career of the subsequent founder of the seven-year old company who has not looked back since - while moving on from success to success as an aircon contractor, shortly afterwards.

And with his motto, ‘Where we keep your climate @ Cooling Point,' recording a 25% increase in remunerations to over $2m last year, from $1m in 2010 and $0.5m in 2005. Jonathan with his partner now manages 30 staff in 7,000 sq ft of premises in the Woodlands Industrial Park - from 20 staff and 2,500 sq ft, two years ago.

Along the way, he picked up a handful of awards. Starting with the Best Trainee Award while training in the Police Academy before becoming a Sergeant for two years. His subsequent awards were for his entrepreneurial successes. Following a 2006 Excellence Performance Award from Toshiba Air-conditioning, two years later he got a Certificate of Appreciation from Plant Engineering Construction applauding him for 'successfully installing air-con units at PEC HQ without recordable incident complying with PEC Safety, Occupational Health & Environmental Requirements.' From 2010 - 2012, he also won consecutively for three years the annual Successful Entrepreneur Awards. Trailed by the Singapore Brand Award in 2011.

“When I first started, I burnt the midnight oil for the first few years. Even today, I continue to do so, three times weekly, to keep on growing,” said the passionate entrepreneur always on the go. Backed by his family and enthusiastic partner, clients and workers, he continues to outdistance his rivals through his competitive rates, excellent service and client networking.

Not forgetting the entrepreneurial benefits of his past training with the Police Academy and subsequent police career. “My people management skills, discipline and moral values I acquired while in the Force come in useful in growing Cooling Point Aircon to every level – to be one of the leaders in this field. Without this training, I don't think our company would have come this far. Or go beyond.”

“Initially my partner and I ran around in our mini-van personally servicing aircons, while distributing flyers and making cold calls at night,” said Jonathan. For a short time, the dynamic duo also sold second-hand aircons to exporters from Nigeria, Malacca and Sri Lanka, while re-educating customers on the need to re-cycle and reduce electricity wastage for going green. But as their business grew locally under their drive and enthusiasm for providing good services, both entrepreneurs changed directions successfully – with Jonathan now focusing on building the business, while his partner supervises the jobs onsite.

Future Directions

“Our ambition remains the same from Day One of our entrepreneurial journey : To keep doubling the figures, and trebling the business and clientele while staying true to our values. In short, to provide top service quality while maintaining great clientele relationships,” said Jonathan. He added, “Tough times don't last but tough, sincere entrepreneurs do – when providing good, honest, transparent services at competitive prices.”
