The Successful Entrepreneur's Early Life

No stranger to hard work or a hard life, Patrick went entrepreneurial in his 28th year with Jun Yi Enterprise – along with a varied entrepreneurial career. Beginning from his primary school days, Patrick helped his father sell various items at night markets. Subsequently, during secondary school, he worked at his family stall long after midnight at the Bendemeer Market to sell fish porridge and Hong Kong pau & tim sum.“I learnt to take everything in my stride.”

After NS, he worked for short stints in a broking firm doing commodities and subsequently, an insurance company. “Not my cup of tea, so between 1983 - 1985, I joined my brother as a sub-contractor in electrical, plumbing, painting and tiling works,” said the resilient and tough entrepreneur, simultaneously selling Hong Kong tim sum and pau in new housing estate coffee shops. On being forced to close down the business, he returned to sub-contracting in general works, setting up Jun Yi Enterprise a few years later.

The company is focusing on growing its local business, while simultaneously ensuring the success of its second-line leadership.“We want Benjamin to learn the ropes faster for being in the driver's seat one day,” said Patrick, with a father's pride, passing on his hard-earned expertise to his son. “While maximizing the local profile of June Yi Enterprise over the next decade, I also ensure that Benjamin takes over a company that is in good shape.”

“If we are positive thinkers, despite everyday problems, through trial-and-error we can learn many new things daily.”
